Jerald F. Tiedt, 80, of Sumner, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner with Rev. James Brokman officiating. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Fairbank at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and scripture service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jerald Francis, son of Louis and Gladys Mersch Tiedt, was born November 2, 1933, in rural Fayette County near Sumner, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank. He received his education in the rural Fayette County Schools and graduated from Oran High School. On June 16, 1952, he was united in marriage with Rachel Herzenach at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank. Jerald worked as a carpenter for Lorber Construction of Oran and later owned and operated Tiedt Construction. One of his favorite things to do was go to garage sales and putter around with the things he found. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner.
In addition to his wife, Rachel of rural Sumner, he is survived by one son, Joseph Tiedt and his fiancé, Becky Siggelkov of Sumner; two grandchildren, Valerie (Justin) Warnke of rural Sumner and Sean Tiedt of Harlingen, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Shane and Dillon Warnke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, James.
